Yinnar Movies
It was too cold to swim, so it seemed like a good day to drive toward Yinnar, Shaun's home town. Our first stop was Monash
University, where Shaun works occasionally. Their library has many pcs for public use so we were able to catch up on all the
mail. This was the first time since I arrived that I actually had time to read and handle all the mail.
Shaun went off in search of Andrew, his boss. Andrew was in a meeting. Shaun returned and said he had called his folks and we
were expected over there in 30 minutes.
YIKES!
We had agreed that this would be ok. But gee....this would be the first time I would be in their house and I would have to
meet the mom who wasn't 100% supportive of Shaun's decision to marry me. But, this had to happen
eventually.
The meeting went well. I sat on one end of the rectangular kitchen table and Shaun's mother on the other end. The two men sat
opposite each other breadth-wise, both wishing they could be some place else. Me too for that matter.
When we first arrived, she and her husband were busy doing the dishes by hand, together. This is so
romantic. :-) Mrs. Dietrich had just made a cake. Apparently she is a marvelous cook. Shaun says it is like eating out at a
fine restaurant every day. Yes. He understands that I am not a cook! Well, I can cook but it doesn't come naturally to
me. She is also a fanatic about 'clean'. So is Shaun. It will be interesting, this living together stuff!
Shaun and I sorted all the floppies from the wedding (The pictures were all taken with the Sony FD83 Mavica.) Mrs. Dietrich
brought out all the Shaun baby pictures and brought them over for me to see. Gawd. He was so beautiful.
Shaun's cat, 'Smokey', was nowhere to be found. We checked outside for him but he was hiding somewhere on the farm. I was
looking forward to meeting the Puska, as Shaun calls him, but he wasn't going to meet today. So, instead, Shaun took me out to
the paddock to show me the cattle.
Mr. Dietrich, Shaun and I walked through the calf paddock first and then onto the big boys' paddock. Scary! A little
anyway. Shaun knew what to do and told me to crouch down so that they were taller than me. When I did that, they all circled
around me. I don't know if they know they could crush me in an instant, but it seemed like they knew it! They didn't like how
I tasted. They liked Shaun best. :-)
We hugged and kissed the parents and were back on the road to Inverloch before sunset. It was a great relief to have that
first meeting over and done with. They have a delightful home. It is no wonder that Shaun is so happy there.
